GCC Featured in the New York Times


The New York Times journalist David Bornstein featured World Savvy and three graduates of the Global Competence Certificate program in his February 8 Fixes column, Preparing Young Americans for a Complex World. Carla Kelly, Maggie Front, and Rod Septka, educators from the Bronx, NY and Mill Valley, CA respectively, shared stories of how they are applying student-centered global inquiry methods in their classrooms. As a result, they have observed more engaged students who begin identifying with and caring about people living in very different circumstances across the world. "A lot of this helps the kids to understand what actions they can take toward solving world issues," said Front. "It's not the mission to create activism, but that tends to come out of it."
